condensing furnace noise

A very good friend of mine's neighbor recently had a condensing furnace installed, and it was vented to his side yard. As the unit starts up, you hear the high pitch whine of the (inducer?) motor, as well as the echo of the 3" pipe (pvc) ringing out. Is there any way for him to quite this noise, besides stuffing rags in it?
Thanks for any suggestions,

Grab the pipes
Alot of the noise I see is a plastic pipe vibration. While the furnace is making noise grab each pipe, inlet and outlet, near the furnace and work toward the outside. The smallest item touching in the ceiling can do it. Also, this is the time for high pitched squeeks from inducer motors, so grab the inducer while it runs and see if the sound changes, new furnaces usually have a 1-5 year parts and labor warranty so whomever installed it gets to fix it.0 -
Stuffing rags
in the exhaust will not allow the furnace to fire.
Please, NEVER stuff rags in the PVC pipe.

I was just kidding on that one....I can see where that would be bad. As a sparkey for 10+ years, I worked with a lot of 4" pvc and know what he is talking about with the echo thing. Maybe insulate around the pipes? Strap /secure them?
