    This thread

has been captivating on a number of fronts or affronts.

If nothing else, the original post reminded me why I like this place so much. Being faceless without any physical characteristics to interfere with prejudices or pre-concieved notions based upon looks has been a boon for communicating and one of the best things about the internet and this "home". Being judged purely on your words.

I've hesitated replying or contributing to this thread because I didn't want to help keep it alive. On the other hand, it's been great to see nothing but positive posts & given the fact that anyone can post without a valid name or e-mail address, the lack of responses supporting the original post's slur is heartwarming.

    Walk in my shoes.

I also agree that we should not dwell too much on this thread.
It is what it is. Some people are just that way,and won't change.
I see it everyday, especially in my county where less than 6% of pop. is
in the minority, now try being a contractor. Some people are glad I return their phone calls, some count the silverware when I leave, some leave me the keys to their house, some call the other guy after I notice their faces drop, (did'nt the name on the business card give them a hint) some feel more comfortable if I only work in a gas station.
I however won't let stupidity hinder my biz, or my life. It is very encouraging when the phone continues to ring. I am also deeply moved by the many good men here on the wall, and the positive responses.
I must admit though that I also have made off color jokes, remarks, about race religion, nationalities, even my own background . Even though it is not my true heart, I now feel that I should be much, much ,much more careful not only to the offended party, but to myself, I can't walk as tall if I don't. It is because of the men on the wall that I just now came to this conclusion.
Boy, not just heating help, but self improvement also. My wife just does'nt understand why I hang out here so much!

If Keith won't apologize or explain himself, I'll apologize for him.

Tankless, I just put on four new wheels for my truck ( just regular winter tires)
And I still could not get up that driveway. True spinners : ) You should have seen me falling and cursing as I tried to wallk up that long, steep driveway. What is it with people building houses on mountain tops? There is a reason no one built there before. Maybe I'll get a little snowmelt job after the winter.

Remember: One love, One god, One people, One world.

    Happy Holidays to all !

in the trade and I have never heard that term. I've left positions because of racism issues. I'm also a white boy who went to high school in Dorchester in the 70's. I am truly offended my the term and it certainly has no place in a public forum. I don't feel that people on the wall are overreacting. They just see it for what it is...ignorance. Peace and happy holidays

    Hey Singh

We would never make racial jokes about you on a national forum. We will wait till Feb when we see you in person. (Just kidding LOL ). Judge a man by his actions, not anything else. The "present" Rick is sending you is very nice. Me and Mark got ours yesterday from him. We look forward to seeing you, Bud. You will also get the honour of meeting our very good friend Matt "maddog" Sweeney. A true gentleman of the highest caliber. Take Care

It seems the good people have responded.

there are alot of good people just not too many Human Beings

anymore :( people make mistakes and have widely differing world views.I have traveled across America a few times and our country as wonderful as it is has many dissapointing perspectives when viewed by young eyes raised outside of privledge. my parents always held to the idea that you get up off your duff and give a lady a seat, many years ago when we were traveling across our bountiful nation i got up and offered a lady who had just gotten on the bus a seat...it caused an Uproar on the bus the driver pulled over and started in on me...and told me to sit down and she could stand. my dad hearing this got up told me to sit down said" you may be able to tell him what to do,buh i suggest you get back there and take your seat and drive this bus or I WILL! "and not a murmmer one out of any single one of them..... i have to think that there are good people everywhere who forget sometimes we are all human beings and make mistakes. may i assure you , my dad had recently gotten home from Korea i do belive that the entire bus would have had to get off and walk had they pushed even so much as one more button with him. The Marine corps wasnt looking for a few good men back then...they were already Found.

    the price of freedom

is sometimes extracted by our having to bear the free speech of thoughts that revile the human spirit.

Each year during our City's Halloween Parade, a very vocal "preacher" enters a float that incorporates a Dr Butcher theme for his anti-abortion protest. I wouldn't mind him being vocal, but he includes graphic photographs of actual aborted fetuses - in color. Turns out such moronic and offensive behavior is a free speech protected right. This was his third year and parents are reaching the limits of their tolerance for his antics during an event that's supposed to be family oriented with lots of small children. This year, several fights broke out along the way between the preacher's assistants and spectators. We simply turned our backs on him, which raised his ire & he yelled we'd be going to hell for turning our backs to him. My expression of free speech involved but a single finger, which seemed to somehow offend him(G).

    Personally-

I'm glad this thread has seen the time on board that it has. Why not? All of us spend more time than we'll want to admit to at the end of our days dealing with problems that related to physics/mechanics. This is what we do. But it's not What We Are. What more appropriate time of the year for a sidestep-something to remind us to put down our tools, and think about each other. To think about what what we teach our kids, what we teach each other, and what others are learning about us as we live our every day extraordinary lives. I'm proud to be among all of you-blessed to be so. Every day this side of grass is a good day to me- Another chance. If I may quote Dave Allen (wholeheartedly)- May Your God Go With You-Will

    Look what happens

When somebody plays the Race Card they always look like an idiot compared to the person they are calling out. People always criticize in others what they don't like about themselves. Merry Christmas Keith, May you find Peace in your tortured soul...
