I have a question, you have talked about shutting off some areas from heating. Are these areas insulated off from the rest of the house?, or are you just shutting down unused rooms, and if the latter, are you "robbing" heat from other rooms and is this is the case, is it actually costing you more? Alot of us think that is the case in the latter situation. Like to hear your input on that

The only way I can "shut down" is by lowering the TRV setting. Impossible to completely turn a TRV "off".

As I mentioned before, I re-built the interior staircase to the basement this year but it is currently completely open to the ground floor. Am honestly wondering if the house is "robbing" heat from the basement! Again, I am maintaining quite low space temperatures, i.e. the "Eurocave".

your little experiment is really interesting

since I have forced air, about all I can do is shutdown the upstairs, but have an open staircase so really doesn't accomplisje anything, but get asked all the time about "shutting down" unused rooms and have been led to beleive that that is a self defeating tactic, so am really interested in what you may determine through the rest of the heating season.
