What I DON'T want for Christmas

God Hates Interesting concept. First of all, I am not a theologian, and do not claim to be. I post not by my name because and though I have taken enough engineering classes to be dangerous; I do not have a degree in engineering either. Life sent me in another direction. I have posted as a homeowner because that is what I am. Constantine got flamed (in my opinion) quite badly a while ago when people accused him of overstepping his authority.
As far as God hating, I remember taking a class on religion in college, on the first day, first class, the instructor said, If you are taking this class to use the information so that you can walk down the street, point at someone and say sinner!, you are free to leave now.
May I digress, there are two ways to look at God; One is a loving God with open arms, and who is looking for ways to get you and me into heaven in spite of ourselves. The other is a kind of pissed off guy sitting around with a fistful of lightening bolts waiting for you to just take one step out of line and -wham. I have been taught to believe in the first one, by the words, For God so loved the world that. I have been taught the view that the bible is a book that we read and then - look inward with. Do I think God is capable of hate? I do think that there are ways to break his heart through actions of sin. Look at the parable of the Prodigal Son. At anytime does the father in that story display hate? I will give you a personal example: Many years ago my wife and I had an acquaintance who after much trouble with depression, committed suicide. He in many respects was a really good guy; Except that he denied the existence of God. And by this I have to accept that if he is not in h*ll, he will be. However do I think God said to him I hate you, no, I do not. He turned his back to God and in turn, God honored that and turned his back to him.
You asked if I had made this religion up, no this is pretty mainstream religion. If it troubles you, print it out and ask a religious authority in the same way people come to the wall looking for assistance. Please do not think that I am some doe-eyed hippie or spineless person walking around. And what I said was not a Rodney King, why cant we all just get along? rant. I get upset just like anyone else; sometimes it seems even more so. That is why if some one says, happy holidays, doesnt bother. Happy Festivus, I can laugh at for hours. However behind it all, I view God as a being who is looking to get me into heaven in spite of myself. And who, in a world that does not acknowledge him, still cares about me. That is why I can live with grateful attitude. That to me is what the Christmas season is all about.

Can you say \"XXXXXXmas\" here?
Uponor can't. I just got my annual "holiday card" from them.
I'm very brand loyal, but I'm in the mood to buy some barrier tube from the first company to tell me MERRY CHRISTMAS! Is Viega politically correct? I have their tool also and like their fasteners. Kevin0 -
Ahh......
Ya know........I don't care that they don't say Merry Christmas on the card. They can't possibly know who that card is going to end up going to. Hanukkah and Christmas are the only HOLYdays that I know of being celebrated here in the US at roughly the same time.
BUT!!!!
Why wait until "the holiday formerly known as Christmas" to send out the cards?? How come I don't get a "Happy Holidays" card on the fourth of July???? Or Memorial Day???
When I hear the PC protests, all I see is the scene from "Fast times at Ridgemont High" where Spicoli beats himself in the the head with his sneaker and says,"That's my head! I'm so wasted!".
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
THERE! I SAID IT!!! COME AND GET ME!!!!!!

Flip side of the coin
Hey, Please, I may be one of these PC people in that I dont mind if someone pulls a 10 commandments structure out of a city square that Cecil B Demille put there as a movie prop. (Guess for what movie?) I looked at what Mapplethorpe did with the crucifix and the urine jar and it honestly does not bother me. I have had and will still have God in my heart. I have been an elder at my church for more than a decade, and helped in other ways. I have been involved in church ever since I could be. And I really have never seen an anti-Christmas/holiday movement. Oh well, perhaps I have not spent enough time looking for such a movement. So where is this going?
Well I think if we all look at what we have going for us instead of what bugs us, we will be closer to God and perhaps closer to the Christmas spirit. Do you have more than two dollars in your wallet, then be thankful, because most of the world; well over seventy five percent survive on two dollars or less a day. And I would like to think that they are just as grateful to God as I or we are. Next clean water, how often we take simple clean water for granted. Again most people in the world do not. Ever go to a foreign country where you have to boil the water and even some of the bottled water is questionable? Imagine raising your kids in all of that. Health care, we may gripe about it, however on Christmas Eve, my wife and others will be at the hospital like any other day. I have known my wife for over ten years, one Christmas Eve have we been in a church together, all other times she been at work at the hospital or I have. Does it bug me? At times, until I look at ALL THE OTHER BLESSINGS WE HAVE. Christmas Eve, my wife will be at work, and so will cops, and fire fighters, soldiers, people at the electric and gas companies, and some of the Wallies.
Last winter there was that string about Did I get overcharged?. I had called a tech about that time because our boiler went out. On the way to the house before ours, someone slid through a light and broadsided the guy in his truck. He was kind/thoughtful enough to call us and explain the situation and arrange to have a friend come to our house. Some people may not have a million dollars cash but do have million dollar class and he is one of them. When the pal he called got our boiler to fire up, I was grateful, to both of them. To sum up: I think if you look close you will see that a lot our differences are less than our similarities. As Red Green says, Hey were all in this together. If you dont see a manger scene down at city hall, check in your heart to see if there is one there.
And all of you have a Merry Christmas.
But about Paris Hilton and Nascar, he is right.

I commend you for what sounds like a very thankful attitude. But I remind you that there are various things that God HATES, and if nothing at all offends you, is it the God of the Bible in your heart, or an image you made to suit yourself? Kevin0 -
Wheeze, is that the same as
"I'm not as think you drunk I am"
I agree, kids would be better people if they watched "The Wall" instead of TV.
Brian, the ethnically mongrel Cajun. (See mark's thread above).

Real racers drive cars with no roof or fenders......I say BAH HUMBUG to the "politically correct" and wish you all a Christmas where everyone remembers the true meaning of the season and how mankind was eternally effected by the First One.
Have a very merry and blessed Christmas season.

The Wall: Always wondered if Dan was a Pink Floyd fan?0 -
MN HO, I agree with you in many respects
Neither do I think God is waiting to smite us when we get out of line. The Bible says that God "takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked" and "is not willing that any should perish" but that "all should come to repentance"
and that "while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us"
HOWEVER, when we look to the cross of Calvary, it not only shows us how much he loves us, but how much he hates sin. It must be punished, cannot be glossed over, and required the death of His sinless Son to make our forgiveness possible because we have all broken the 10 commandments. (lied, stolen, blasphemed, lusted, coveted, dishonored our parents etc...) And part of the law says that "the soul that sinneth shall die", and "the wages of sin is death". There are no "good people" by God's standard. We are all GUILTY. Psalm 5:5 ,7:11 and Proverbs chapter 1, 6:16 and Revelation 2:6 are several places where it shows the wrath of God or speaks of God's hatred. Nobody goes to Hell because God didn't love them, but rather because they reject His love through their self-righteousness as you alluded to also. You can spot this kind a mile away by sin-excusing things they say like, "I'm as good as so and so" "nobody's perfect" "I'm only human" etc...
The Bible teaches through Jesus we can be forgiven of all sin... but he doesn't forgive excuses. Pardon isn't offered to those proclaiming their innocence. I merely offer that if you have a true understanding of the nature of God, things like Maplethorpes "Piss Christ" (as he titled it) and many other things SHOULD offend you. Indeed you should have a righteous hatred for those things. The tolerance you have may not always be virtuous.
In Psalm 94:16, God asks a question, "Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? Or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity? Even Jesus cleansed the temple with a whip, and taught that we should fear God, and warn the wicked to repent. I Hebrews 4:12, the Bible describes itself as a TWO edged sword. One side speaks of Grace, the other LAW. One side Love, the other wrath. One side mercy and forgiveness, the other justice and judgement. The point of the sword is holiness unto the Lord. Many in our day have ground off one side of the sword and broken off the point. There is an interesting "good test" at livingwaters.com I think you might enjoy, and thanks for being willing to talk about this with me. I respect you for that, and your thankfulness too. Now we need to stir up a little righteous indignation in you. Ephesians 4:26 says, "be angry and sin not" Anger isn't always wrong. Have a happy New Year! Kevin

I believe in celebrating anybody's holidays: Why be offended by any of them; enjoy the history and culture. It doesn't mean that you are "cheating" on your own.
Besides, if I can become omni-religeous, there's more hoilday celebtating to partake in....more food (like I need that), more drink, more laughter (we all need that).
Happy Holidays to all,
Guy
