I can't imagine that romex and other wire would be rated for 400°. I think you are right, it must be a duct booster and not a draft inducer. Misapplication.

    Vent Thingy

Saw this on a job the other day. Several issues at this location. This was just another one. The UL sticker didn't focus but it mentioned rating of 180*F. Am I correct to assume this is a duct booster? It's on a vent connector coming off a boiler and downstream from a water heater common connection and according to the customer, it was installed to improve draft. Ack. They're getting a different outfit to come and clean up this among other issues. The wall penetration isn't the flue. It passes through the wall and then travels another 15-20' through an unconditioned crawl space before entering the flue. All single wall pipe. The vent in the crawl is surprisingly in pretty good shape, I guess since it gets replaced more often than the basement run. Got me a new cam for Christmas so hopefully I can send more amusing pics from my world now and then. Hope all on the Wall had a great Christmas.

    Take care

It's a draft inducer. Set up correctly they are interlocked in the burner circuit so if it is not running the burner won't fire. They boost the draft as the H/O said. Was there condesate at the end of that long run?
Love the romex, supply house must have been out of BX Huh?

Speaking of things electrical in vents...

Do they make an electric damper for oil burners that work well? I sometimes get a lot of air comming in the chimney when the boiler is off.

    I agree

It had no means of proving operation and definitely not rated for vent temps. Add to that it had 120V wiring inside the vent. Ewww.
