Steam pipe trouble

Hi,
I live in an old tenement building in New York City. After I moved in, I had a plumber remove the radiator in the bedroom and then cap it so that all that remained was the floor to ceiling insulated pipe. Since then, the Maid-o-mist valve has been hissing and gurgling like crazy. It is very difficult to sleep and I'm wondering what I can do.
Do I need a new Maid-O-Mist valve? Are they easy to install?
Please help! I need to get some sleep.

Damsel,
Yes, the vent is probably bad. I'd replace it with a Hoffman brand slower vent. Don't do it yourself. If the steam's in the pipe or if the threads get stripped you'll be in trouble.

call back or
Call the plumber back to fix it. lic. plumbers usually give a one year gaurantee. if it is defective ,its on the house but it could be another unrelated problem. if you are a tenant , bill the landlord but inform him beforehand. did it ever work correctly ?0 -
If the radiator was removed
where is that Maid-o-Mist vent located?
