steam return filter

I installed a gas burnham commercial steam boiler in a 80 year old church. The old boiler had numerous piping problems and control issues, which I corrected. The old pipng and radiators had lots of sludge and sediment build up, so I dumped all the return water for the first week. The boiler is still running rust colored and the church wants us to add a filter before the condensate tank. I already have a wye strainer before the tank. Do they make something else that does a better job? The church said they found something online.

The issue with filters in gravity-return systems is pressure drop. I use a Neptune filter feeder on my home heating systems but then, I have a circulator. Not sure what is available for gravity-paced condensate. Would love to know.
For sludge as you describe and depending on space and budget, I like basket strainers. Low pressure drops and you can get magnetic inserts to harvest stray iron. The large size relative to the pipe size allows decent "drop off" of particulates.0 -
