If it has been a long time at least once a month mimimin .If the boilers plug have not been removed and the water passes not washed out over time can destroy your boiler and increase operating costs.(trying to boiler mud )Besides constant make up water i think the 3dr biggest killer of steam boiler is firing with dry sections caused by mud and sediment blocking the water side ports and of course the 2nd biggy is lack of proper maintance.I believe that just draining water out of the boiler may do something like get lose mud and sediment out but it is not the end all of cleaning a steam boiler just a teaser peace and good luck clammy

How often should i blow out and drain some water from my boiler? I have a WM. I have the electronic type LWCO with the green light on it. Also how much should i drain? What is recommended?0 -
Make sure your heating company pulls the probe on that electronic LWCO annually to clean off the sludge. A buildup on the probe can give false ground to the control and it can fail to protect the boiler. Unless the water is very dirt or acidic, I'd leave it alone
