About 15 years ago I read an article about a company in Mass. that was soon to market an oil-fired residential boiler that also generated electricity. The name "Intertech" comes to mind. Was I just dreaming?

Inteligen
It was called the Inteligen. I installed one that worked in conjucntion with a Viessmann boiler to heat a large home for heat, DHW, indoor pool and jaccuzi. It was tied in to the grid and used a deisel engine running on # 2 fuel. They had lots of problems with the #2 fuel unit and developed a propane model that was working pretty good until they lost their financing and went belly up.0 -
intelligen
I still have one of those units,it worked great for the first few years,it made the electric meter run backwards.the biggest problem was that it needed service and mora hands on attenition than i was able to give it . it heated and old farmhouse and a 1500 sf in floor radiant addition quite well. it has now been replaced but will be rebuilt and back online someday, loved to watch that meter spin backwards. dont know the real reason intelligen went belly up ,they were good units at $$ 8000.00.they did work. thanks ....mike0 -
meter spins backwards
I sure agree you can get it to do that, BIG questions is, at what cost? can you produce electricity at 10 cents per kilowatt?0 -
Inteligen
Hello,
Not a regular frequenter of this site, but I have been trying to track down Inteligen for 5 years. I too heard of them years ago.
Does anyone have a used one they want to sell? I have been planning to build my own, but would much rather buy one, even if it needs repairs/overhaul.
If you have contact info for the Inteligen company, I would like to try and track down the original principals. MicroCoGen is taking off in Europe and Japan. These units run as boiles at about 80% efficiency and produce electricity as a by product.
Thanks in advance for any responses.0 -
I remember interviewing for a job with them a while back. The founder lived in Natick, MA. I may be able to uncover the name.
The Intelligen system used an internal combustion engine powered at natural gas or fuel oil. The home was heated by circulating the water as the coolant in the engine, while the mechanical force powered a generator for power with the goal to capture as much waste energy as possible.Steve from Denver, CO0 -
I seem to recall the name Scianci as one of the founders.Steve from Denver, CO0 -
