I am no expert but have you skimed the water in the boiler yet? There is a lot of residual oil from manufacturing that can foul up the steam production.

  I need to condition my new boiler. I have a can of KEN boiler conditioner, is this similar to Squick?

  but instead of dumping stuff into the boiler, I'd let it cool down and then flush it out with a hose.
