Both of those parts are replaceable. Usually not easy to get out either. Hate to say it but new is best, especially when you have already put that much torque on the brass unions.

    ci radiator connections

    I am swapping out a larger ci radiator for a smaller one. Before I have the smaller one lugged up to the second floor, I wanted to pressure (40psi) test it. In trying to test it I have small leaks at the union-type pressure connections at the valve and elbow. It sure seems like I have already put way too much muscle into trying to tighten those nuts. The bevel mating surfaces seemed clean and without dents or nicks. Any ideas? Thanks

    Use some teflon paste on the face's of the union. Illegal according to code, but effective...
