Billy Preston
often refered to as the 5th Beatle passed yesterday. He is credited for keeping the Beatles together for an extra time with his upbeat and easygoing personality. He played the keyboards on the Beatles songs; "Get Back," "Let it Be" and I Want You So Bad" I remember his solo hit, "Does it Go Round In Circles", on the radio as a young man. Hard not to tap your toes when that one came on. He also wrote the Joe Cocker Hit "You are So Beautiful." It's sad to see my cultural reference points passing before me. It sort of shoots holes in my pretentions of immortality.

It was wierd......
...yesterday, I'm driving back to the office from a call, and Billy Preston is playing on my satellite radio.
I get in here, fire up the WWW, and see an article saying that he died.
I always like him.

Is it just me, or is the correct expression "passed away"?
Kidney stones pass, gas passes (i.e. you pass gas), so if someone is passing, I want to know what they are passing so I can move away.0 -

I didnt know that was him On "Get Back" that piano solo really grooves.
He also did lots of great stuff w/ the Stones. I saw them w/ Billy on piano ( and the Stones' other great keybordist Andy Sterwart,RIP ) in 1983 in Philly. What a show.
I also heard the Grateful Deads keyboard player died this week, not a good week for music.0 -
Billy Preston
I saw him in '91, I think, playing keyboard for "The Band". When he was introduced, he spent some time telling the audience how thrilled he was to be playing with them. It was a Great show!
The guy had a stellar career, playing with all the greats of the time! The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Little Richard, Ray Charles, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke, Sammy Davis Jr., Sly Stone, Aretha Franklin, the Jackson 5, Quincy Jones, and Red Hot Chili Peppers and on and on!
He packed a lot into his 59 years!
I'm glad I got to see him live!

I liked
his stellar performance in "The Concert for George" when he played with Eric Clapton, Ravi Shankar and gang at the Albert Hall several years ago. His version of "My Sweet Lord" was a show stopper.

Nope
Billy Preston would have been at least the sixth Beatle - don't forget William Campbell who replaced Paul when he died back in the '60's.0
