in THE MAIN WALL
I recently replaced boiler in an 80-year old, two-pipe steam system. Old system had condensate pump. Contractor said condensate pump was not necessary with new boiler. New boiler works great, heats better than old and is more efficient, but we have excessive water hammer whereas old system with pump had almost none. Suggestions or opinions for solving?

    I'm no expert....but water hammer in my two-pipe system was caused by pipes pitched the wrong direction, allowing water to puddle. Maybe get out a short level and check those pipes! Someone had done a "repair" in the past and added a inch our two to the length, allowing the pipe to sag backwards just enough for puddles to form.
