Indirect WH plumbed backwards

Howdy,
They are here now, replacing the old demand oil boiler with a new WM boiler and indirect hot water tank. I noticed the boiler water in and return were plumbed backwards. Is this a problem that they should address or is it nothing?

Correct it
The flow positions are there for a reason, generally in that you want to promote counterflow and convection within the tank. On my SuperStor for example, the hottest water enters the top and leaves the bottom so the coldest incoming water sees the coldest leaving boiler water. This also helps condensing (heat extraction) at the boiler level.
If "In" and "Out", so specifically lableled, are ignored, what else might be? That is my take.0 -
Make sure
that they are backwards. They may be "pumping away" and have the circulator on the supply pumping towards the indirect. That may be backwards from what your used to seeing.
On the other hand as Brad says, its backwards it should be corrected.

Even the pros make mistakes
And in their own homes too . I piped the boiler in and boiler out wrong on my own Weil McLain Gold Plus 30 . So far we haven't run out of hot water yet .... But you are doing the right thing by asking the contractor to pipe it to specs .

There is one brand
There is one brand that we don't use but on occasion will get one for a same for same replacement. But they switched the supply and return at some point so there goes that theory. I asked the rep about it at a trade show and he said just reverse them and remove the in/out sticker so no one complains. My question was is it critical and if switching is ok why didn't the install manual (yes I read them) mention it. He had no response. It isn't a brand highly talked about here but a few years ago it was highly criticized.

If it is a Weil
indirect it is a tank in a tank style. I would send the hottest supply to the bottom of the tank, as that is where the cold water goes in.
But like Ron mentioned, I'll bet it would work fine backwards. Have you tried it for output and recovery?
