Has anyone seen this style before? Before you say it. I know E.D.R. (Every Darn Radiator)-Dan' great book probably has it listed.

Can I get the ratings from someone?

I've bought 4-books myself (Radiant heating for the non-engineer, primary/secondary piping, pumpimg away, the golden rules of hydronic heating) and I'm trying to get my company to buy E.D.R. and one or two of his great books on steam......If I can't get them to do it....I will have to break down and get them.

I owe everyone here (Dan H. and everyone who posts here) a thank you for all I have learned over the years. Big Thanks!

No this contractor was hired to cut the old boiler out and radiators. Another contractor is updating the system in this grand old house with central htg & a/c (bad choice in my opinion).

He is storing them to use/sell. We are located in southwestern Indiana.

Either the Raydiant or the Solray

very nice units. Whoever is tearing them out is going to regret it when the fuel bills go up.

    Thanks...

Its funny that this should come up now. I took a look at a job this spring and this is what I found as the garage radiator. Its the only one in the house like it. Took care of that vent issue. This rad really throws heat nicely.

Over the weekend I was perusing photos and thought "Maybe I should post that for identification." Lo-and-behold this thread pops up! Its just like the others pictured, with the convector innards and radiant "outers."

    rads

those are indeed wiel-mclain rads.very interesting that this thread pops up now because i just came across 5 that were ripped out of church we are working in. (thinking of installing as a one pipe steam system in my 1500 sq' cape). they are in dans e.d.r. book, but i think they were available in many configurations. yours appear to have full front and back radiant panels, as well as the "vectant". mine have front and back with no vectant. the book shows them with tin backs and single or double vectants,so getting a true edr may take some guesstamation.(unless somebody out there has old wiel-mclain rating tables and can help out?). glad to see i'm not the only one trying to save these beauties from the scrap yard. rob

    legs.

Jeez. Another case of the obvious totally escaping me. Yup, its a legless model. I didn't think about it until now. Particularly unusual.

Which brings me to the next question. The rest of the house has flush mount covers reminiscent of Arco/American standard fair. Except that the top openings are vertical, not horizontal. Some of these cover an Arco-like tube radiator, and others cover convectors. Were these kinds of items part of the W-M line? Or did the builder mix a bit...

    They were CI convectors

some of the elements went bad and were replaced with small radiators inside the cabinets. I've had to do this from time to time.

  • found it!

Went thru my late father's "desk system" and found the 1954 Weil Mclain Rayiant brocheres ( not as old as Dan H.) And have the ratings on single, dbl, and triple veacarts, interested? I'll make copies and send to you...

    If you could scan them

save them as a PDF file and send it to Dan for the Library, that would be even better!
