Munchkin T50M or the Contender MC50. Off the top of my head, those two boiler has the lowest BTU input.

For a small new house, heat loss calcs only show something like 40KBth/h at design temp of -30F. Boiler will heat water for in-slab PEX on lower floor, higher temp rads on main floor. Plus DHW with a 45g. Sup-R-Stor.

He is gettig a Trinity 150 pushed at him by local supply, but I think it is too big and will short cycle. I think he needs something in the 50-60 range with a good turndown.

    Please suggest other options.

That is what I am saying, but I don't have the creds to back it up.

Can you offer reasons why choosing a boiler with too much capacity, such as the Trinity 150, is a bad idea?

    Well

It's bad because it will short cycle and waste fuel.

I for got to mention that there are other manufacturers that make boilers in the low BTU input range.
