    Ok, here is my question, Where can I find some kind of trays for the top of the radiator to put water for moistire on the air? Does any one sell something like that or i will have to go to a sheet metal fabricator to custum build it. If that is the case what material will be best, aluminum, galvanize, or other metals. I will hate to put aluminum, trays from the dolar store or my wife cooking pots in top of the radiators. Any suggestions. or other alternatives to add humidity to the dry air in the house with steam heating.On other subject I finish tuning my boiler, Its working like never before. I place anothear treat on the subject.

    Indoor humidity

    Not on top of the radiator, but an assortment of properly watered house plants work well. Also ultrasonic humidifiers are available.

    I wish I could find

    what we had in our house when I was a child- Copper "slipper" pans that slid into the radiators between the tubes.

    Maybe someone still makes them? Only a Wallie would know for sure....

    Imagine a folded copper pan as long as the radiator and narrow as the space between the tubes. We filled it with a long-spout watering can. (The one we had was in what was once a conservatory or indoor greenhouse; there may have been others.) I suppose you could get a metalsmith to make one up for you in 20 ounce soft copper.

    I say copper for two reasons, 1) It will not rust and 2) Copper oxide is a natural biocide should water stand in there for too long.

    These have been around forever and I suspect they are still available but do not know where.

    I will poke around on the web and see what turns up.

    very little surface area to evaporate from with the old gadgets.

    seems to me. the new vaporizers will probably put out alot more humidity for you. In the city we had one right in our bedroom--kept us from getting colds. Of course the wallies will tell you that if humidity level is too low that might indicate you have to tighten up your house envelope a bit.

    I tried numerous ways to get enough humidity and finally bought these. I have found them to do the job well and be reliable. http://www.belowcostappliances.com/humidifiers/hd1205.html This humidifier will evaporate about 12 gallons of water/day, running at high speed. So you will have to keep them filled manually. Depending on size of house and amount of moisture needed, one of these might do the job for you.
