I would like some feedback

One consideration to take into account is the length of the runs. As you know after 10', If I remember correctly, the cfm drops down accordingly. So even though the room calls for, Say....1 ton, but it's in an unusually long hard to reach area in the house....The load still Say's 1 ton but the 6 reg/ton will not cover this due to the length.

If you could only add a factor of some kind to compensate for this. If every room was within respectable distance, you can give it a % factor of 100%. Hard to reach or longer runs would get a factor of whatever the (cfm drop) correlation..........;-) As we all know when using a Unico or any other Hi Vol. unit, you just know there will be some room or rooms that are a bear to reach....;-)

Not bad though,... I like it.

Good Job....

    This is a spreadsheet.....

...that I created tonight. It is for Unico systems, to quickly help you lay out how many outlets for a given system (based on 6 outlets per ton of cooling). Once you do your heat loss calcs, you would simply enter the room name, and the corresponding btu value needed, then the SS does the rest.

I'd appreciate any feedback from you all.

    Thanks,

I thought you might find it interesting...I entered my actual values for my rooms and the number of outlets I have in a new column. Came out more or less the same, give or take. Of course thats not to say my installer has it exactly right either!

The spreadsheet seems to be pretty accurate.

    Mike,

I never thought about that! I think it could be done without making the sheet too entirely complicated, though. I'll have to play with that. Of course, any installer who knows what he's doing will be aware of the longer runs, and adjust (hopefully) the number of outlets accordingly. So, if the room needs a ton of cooling, but the 6 outlets runs are 30' each, he would have to increase the number of outlets.

I'm sitting in a motel room right now, and don't have my Unico outlet duct derating chart with me, so I'll have to do it when I get back home.

    Good catch, and thanks!

It should get you started. Let me know how you are doing. There is more to the total system when you figure designed static, but this is a start assuming everything is as it should be. Remember 40 cfm/per outlet is what Unico is asking for.

    That is...

I love referring people to that chart. It kind of drives home the point that, as you increase the length of the run, the friction takes its toll. Although this chart is for Unico hi-vel systems, the concpets cross manufacturer/system-type lines.

I have seen far too often where installers run 80 feet of flex from the plenum to that remote location and wonder why there is no air coming from the supply register.

    Thanks for posting it, Mike.
