    Yeah it's called asbestos :)

Actually you may be thinking of FyreWrap or Pabco. Expensive stuff...

We specify for a generic product, calcium silicate with a trowelled cement jacket over chicken wire. That is the "wet" part missing from the first two wraps I mentioned.

permissable to use it still? i need something with a high fire rating to go under a wall that may have a 3 hr fire rating between spaces.

No, it is not still permited to my knowlege

I was just Weazing Teasebo. :)

What you will need is a bona-fide UL detail for fire rating. The standard number escapes me but UL 263 sounds familiar as does 555 (fire dampers, anyway).

What you seem to be describing is an MFL (Maximum Fire Loss) wall where penetrations can only occur within so many feet of the floor (none high) and even piping and valves have ratings.

I have used FyreWrap which looks like foil-faced white fiber insulation held in place with metal bands.

I see that it comes in a 1.5 and 2.0 hour rating. Not sure if doubling it is permissible.

Sorry, Weezbo, not much more to offer you! You may call an architect local to you.
