    green ooze

    My parent's boiler was tuned up just after this past heating season. A efficeincy test was performed and it showed 80%. Not bad I thought! Down in the basement where the flue connects to the chimney is this green ooze coming out of the wall and dripping onto the floor. The draft regulator is crusted on the inside and soot appears on the inside of the flue pipe. During a tune up, isn't the flue pipe supposed to be removed and cleaned, and the base of the chimney vacuumed out? How could the service tech sign off on this efficiency test if the draft regulator is crusted over and there is soot inside the pipe? Is this a problem with the chimney or an imporpoerly adjusted burner? What can be used to cleaned this green ooze off the floor? I tried to clean it up with a rag but just spread it around more. I do appreciate any feed back. Thanks.

    Green ooze is a new one on me. Maybe an old copper chimney cap fell into the flue, and flue gas condensation results in green-tinted moisture?
