How to choose a HWG furnace?

in THE MAIN WALL
Our house was built in 1889, is about 5500 sq. feet and has a hot water gas system. We have been told by several industry professionals that our furnace needs replacing (it is about 15 years old) and is not very efficient -- our gas bills run about 6-8K per winter. We want to upgrade the furance to something more modern (and hopefully more fuel efficient) and don't really know how to choose a suitable replacement. Any advice is appreciated.

    first thing to do john is do a heat lose on your home either yourself or down load the slant fin heat lose program from this site or contact a professnal from this site through the find a pro section on this site .Where are you located ?There's also a section on types of systems check it out the smarter the HO is the better he or she will be able to make a decission on what's best for them ,i personal like modulating condensing boiler the effecent ,quite and in most cases reduce fuel comsumption and increase comfort peace and good luck clammy

    Also tighten up

    the building as much as possible. Windows, insulation, caulking, weatherstrip, whatever you can do to lessen the heat load.
