online construction leads

We advertise very little cause most of our work is bid which means were paying for the leads. The Blue Book is a good place to start (depending on were you are). We do pay a tremendous amount of $$ (but worth it) on the CDN or Dodge Reports, or the Browns Letters. Depending on your specialty (meaning if your residential and a one man operation) and size you might be better checking with local Architects or even (I shutter to say) the Yellow Pages. The publications I've mentioned above are geared toward commercial & Industrial. Good Luck!...Robert O'Connor/NJ

    online construction leads

Does any one here use any online companies to get construction leads? I started my business six months ago and advertise in the local papers and word of mouth, i have been doing research with online advertising and companies that get you leads, most are expensive and i would like any insight with some one experienced with these types of companies.
One company that has been contacting me is renovation experts and the sample leads they send you to look at are almost to good to be true and i dont want to make an investment in something that isnt worth it.
    thank you

You need to learn how to market your company

I've had good luck with www.hudsonink.com. Their packages have helped me grow my business more than 75% over the past 3 years.

To me the prices seemed steep at first. Until I looked at them like a tool (which they are). Once I started thinking just how much extra business I would have to get to pay for it the decision was a no brainer.

FWIW, I have no affiliation with HudsonInk other than being a very happy customer and I'll get nothing for this or any other referral I make.

BTW, we use their newsletters twice a year.

my friend Harry in his late80's has never advertized in his

life.not even a free pen or hat.:) so i think it is all about what you are doing and the quality of work and your ability to make rational decisions...the companies in his range know one another.pretty much not open to debate as it were. he didnt start there.advertizing is best spent on preforming one of the above with distinction..............that was for a change of reference.
i read somewhere bad advertizement is better than no advertizement..how true that is i dunno.

mostly my idea when starting out was..i got no $'s for this what can i do? so i would invent ways to advertize...when the Hi pow united way etc were auctioning off junk for charity,i'd donate a couple days time to do some good work for free...some one would bid on the offer it would be on t.v. and people would have heard of my company with out really knowing where.i'd go to the Christian radio station and donate some time to the community with another shameless self aggravandizement ....then i went to the news paper and advertized a short,.. work done ,reasonable rates. prompt reply. contact... one liner in the who does it on wed. and friday paper...i'd place small ad in free newspaper same words then i made some business cards ..and only hand them to someone i liked working with.i still have business cards buh they are like art...not every one can got.i am happy....my life is ok. and i dont want to be a big time operator.
i share these thoughts as a perspective change just in case you might see something that may make sence to you.
