Cast Iron Radiators
Mark you hit on the nose.
Left out;
If this is a steam system and zoning is contemplated each boiler will need to be connected to separatlly zoned piping.

Cast Iron Radiators
I am sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find it.
I am going to have my furnace replaced (two now but going to combine as 1 and zone, used to be a duplex upstairs and downstairs seperate)and was wondering when sizing the furnace to the output of the radiators, should I size it for the maximum output of the radiators or now 30 years later, new windows, siding and insulation, should I size for the actual heat loss of the house?
Currently there are two 73,000 IBR units running each section, and they handle the heat load of the house currently but do seem to be oversized as they only run for a few minutes each.
The local supply house has estimated the size of the new furnace but sized it for the maximum output of the radiators.
If sized for actual heat loss of the house, will the radiators heat properly?
Any advice is welcome.
Thank you,

Size
to the heat loss if this is a water system.
Size to the connected radiation if it is a steam system.
You mention zoning so I will assume it is hot water.
You have a perfect system for a mod/con boiler with outdoor reset. The radiators WILL heat the home properly even with lower water temps.
Hope this helps.
