    What color draws your attention?

    Wallies --

I'm trying to decide on a background color for my next book. I want to pick something that will draw the eyes to it immediately. So here is the question: If you see a lot of books on a shelf and all you notice from the distance is the color of the jacket and not the title, which would you pick first?

Thanks -- your answers might form my choice!

Color of the jacket would draw then the title would sell. Road crew orange would be a standout...could also be used for temporary road cone if your truck breaks down...:)Seeing that we keep this literature in our vans....:)

    Color

Magenta on bright yellow. The colors used in nuclear plants on the radiation area warning signs. Definitely an eye-grabbing combination.

Most prominent spines in my bookshelves use very bold white lettering in a simple font. Usually dark backgrounds like black or deep purple. Also quite noticeable on a gold background--especially when the gold is combined with other (dark) colors.

For old-style books with cloth or leather, true metallic film titling is best--silver (alumnimum I suppose) generally looks best and seems to last longer than fake gold.

    Hmmmmm

How about a deep plum with lime green accents. Or, Fuschia and sunflower yellow. :)

Basic bright red will stand out on almost any bookshelf John.

    PS:

I think you're pondering this a little too deeply :):)

    Silver

So I looked at my bookshelf, and the two things that popped out were first a silver 4 volume set, then the purple books. I think silver would be nice for what you want, it's not common and is less obnoxious than purple, orange or the like.

    Purple it is John

I am partial to purple for two reasons... One it's my birthstone color and two, it stands out well...

Just check out my two books:

"Residential Construction Academy HVAC" and "Heat Pumps".

It's no coincidence that they are both purple.

    :)

    Tough crowd

I'm leaning toward orange -- but camouflage is sounding good too.
