I have an outdoor boiler that i have had about 5yrs,have not changed my water in it yet.My 1st question is does it need to be changed, and what water additives added whether I change the water or not.It has about 25% glycol solution in it now. Also am wondering about flat plate heat exchangers vs.direct circulation in baseboard heat.I currently have a copper coil in tank type exchanger, not very effective at all.I am looking at these options for a do it yourself type job.

I assume this is
a closed, pressurized system? Glycol should be checked every year to keep it maintained. A ph test will indicate the quality of the fluid.
If it is an open system it will be hard to maintain glycol, as the O2 inhibitors will be consumed and the ph will go out of the safe range.
A digital ph tester would be an accurate way to test the fluid.
Most open systems contain water with a boost chemical added every year to minimize corrosion. check with the stoves manufacture for their suggestions.
