Taco 007 hot to the touch

I just installed a 4 zone system in my house using 4 Taco 007 pumps.I was running the first zone with the boiler off.I put my hand on the pump and it was fairly hot but no so hot that I could not keep my hand on it.I never noticed this before. Does anyone no if this is normal. Thanks Jack

  • If you're

pumping 180° water through it, it's going to be hot. If the heat emmitters are getting warm, the pump should be OK.

I've seen pumps get way too hot to touch and the problem is that the impeller is stuck or frozen and since the electrical energy has nowhere to go, it gets hot.

The boiler is not fired and I was just running the pump to test the system.

    007 hot

sounds like the system is air bound and not moving any water

Taco pumps maximum temperature is 240 F

Taco 00 series cartridge circulators are designed to run at temperatures up to 240 degrees F continuously. That is one of the most frequently asked questions for Taco. The motor is cooled by the water being pumped (in most cases the water is 180 degrees) so the pump skin temperature can far exceed 200 degrees. This is normal, and not a detriment to the pump. If you have any additional questions about the Taco 007, please call me direct. For your reference I attached the submittal data sheet for the 007-F5
