Dan..Could you help me...?

Sorry, just read your earlier post stating that the boiler is sized correctly. Do you have numbers to justify this? How did you come to this conclusion? I don't mean to question your statement, but I am curious.

    Dan,
Would you be so kind to read the post that says,
"Steamhead I need help with my Main Vents."

What is your opinion on this. Steamhead has helped me before, but I think I am stumped...

I just read your post to Steamhead, and the first thing that came to mind was the boiler size that he mentioned. I added an addition to my house and I KNOW that my boiler is now undersized. Therefore I usually have one or two rads that don't heat as well as the rest if at all. The boiler simply doesn't produce enough steam for the connected load. I would have someone to a heat load calculation to determine if the right size boiler has been installed.

Also, for the last 7 years, I've been running with Hoffman 40s on all radiators. This fall I decided to experiment with those same Maid O' Mist vents you're referring to. My findings were that it is a little bit more difficult to balance the system with the quicker vents. That's not to say that they won't save you money & provide better comfort if you get the system balanced properly.

Try taking the vent entirely off one of those two radiators and I bet it gets hot.

    I have Dan's

Lost Art Book. When I bought it, I calculated the EDR of all the rads and verified that the boiler was NOT undersized. It is NOT. It was installed in the late 60's early 70's...it is an American Standard....
My next door neighbor, who is 77, installed the boiler then...and he also said that he sized the boiler a little larger than what was needed.

Funny thing..these rads heated fine when I first bought the house 8 years ago!! I cannot get it....Could there be water in them...?
