loud pipes

had it checked out today by our HomeSmart service provider. It is the flow controll and is not covered by the service plan. I guess I'll have to wait for the heating season to end and attempt to replace it myself.

    Loud Pipes

I have a loud ratteling in my heater pipe. It seems to be commong from a valve at the top of the first verticle run above the pump. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    From what you are describing....

....it sounds like a flow control, maybe?

Can you post a picture of the valve? If it is a flow control, there is a brass flapper - like a swing check valve - inside to prevent "ghost" flow when the pump is off. There is probably an adjusting screw - like a thumb screw - in top of the valve.

Try adjusting it inward, and see if that changes the noise. You may need to replace the valve if it can't be disassembled.

    here is a pic.

This is the suspect! The picture should be rotated to the right, so the valve is verticle. There is a cap on top of it that comes off, but no obvious way to adjust anything. Thanks.

    It's hard to tell.....

....because the picture is blurry, but that looks like an automatic air vent. It is basically a small float inside that allows air to vent out, but not water.

I guess the float could cause the noise?....although I don't believe I've ever heard one do that.

You may want to call a professional in to check this out for you, as the source of the noise could be many things.
