Question:
I ran across a Gorton #1 on a Hartford Loop (Steam system) and instead of being a few inches back from where the piping turns down into the wet return, the # 1 sits off beyond it (see sketch). Any reason why I should change this or is it doing all it can? The return pipe gets hot fast enough (even though the piping to the vent takes a good while longer).
Any thoughts?

you can leave it.
a vent probably was directly on the tee at one time..it was moved a bit to protect it.
