    Seems like once a week

I get a call asking if I know someone in a given geographic location in the USA who can install this or that kind of mechanical system. "Gimme your zip code" & I check the FAP zone. Yesterday, it was for a very nice wood boiler installation just over the border in MD. We're not licensed in MD & they can impound your truck(s) if caught - so that's a no-go.

Get listed, get referrals, get work!

The HO can't find anyone in his area according to the MFG, who is just a few miles from Paul Pollets (I know that because the mfg gave me HIS zip code first & I started talking up PP's business!"Hey, there's this really fabulous contractor just 7.5-miles from your location! His name is Paul Pollets and they do top-notch work......." That's when he realized I was looking at the wrong side of the country and stopped me!).

The HO would no doubt be willing to pay a premium for someone with the right skills and knowledge. I'd be happy to help with piping diagrams as the mfg's could use some improving.

Just this past week, I had a lady, who has been a customer for most of two years, tell me she called us because of our FAP listing and my participation on this BB. The Wall has eyes and ears! We've done minor repair work on her steam system and now they're ready for a new boiler. She's not your average customer & knew more than most regarding what to ask. As an example, there's no header on the original boiler and she wanted to know how we'd pipe up a steamer - trick question as she knew the right answer from coming here(G). That she found us here and reads this BB wasn't revealed until the connected load survey was complete.

    I agree fully ...

    with what your are saying.

I would say a vast majority of us homeowners do not have the knowledge or skills required to diagnose or correct a fault in a heating system .... especially the kind that are no longer installed as new systems.

Many of us have been burned by incompetent work in the past and are therefore seeking some assurance of quality workmanship now and in the future. Just look at all the posts on this forum showing photos of bungled jobs.

I believe homeowners that visit this site are sincere in seeking quality services for which they are very willing to pay for that extra trip charge or whatever. The goal is to get the system repaired and functional, not haggle over $$. The goal is peace of mind.

So, the listing that Dan offers on "Find a Pro" is of great help to people like me --- the customer. You guys are where the talent is. Help make that connection.

I was in business in a trade and I will tell you that my success did not come through the yellow pages or newspaper ads or coupons; no, it came as a result of word of mouth and referrals.

If you are a good, competent contractor tell the world. I think all of you are otherwise you wouldn't be hanging out on this forum. There are people, like me, that will take advantage of that listing and gladly pay $$$ for the assurance of quality workmanship.

That is exactly what I am attempting to do. Find a knowledgable contractor to fix the previous contractor's mistakes. I have benefited a lot by reading Dan's books and reading the postings on this forum. I feel a lot better now about gaging a prospective contractor who would be entrusted to take care of my problems.

I will find one in my area. It is just a matter of time.
And, when I do, I will pay his first year's fee for a listing on "Find a Pro". that is how strongly I feel about this. Maybe that will help someone in the future in this area.

It costs nothing to try, and if it doesn't work for them there's no pressure. All they have to do is ignore the three automatic requests to subscribe after three months and their ad will go into the archives.

But if they want to continue to put the power of HeatingHelp.com's Internet position and community behind their business all they have to do is give me the nod. The investment is just $1.10 per day.

HeatingHelp.com gets nearly 5,000 visitors each day.

    Try it for free.
