This was a 900sf ranch home that my dad bought and renovated. I did baseboard and panel rads designed at a A/T of 160, 2 modine fan coils for his 30 x 35 garage with 16ft ceilings, a 53 gallon tank, but unfortunatley couldn't sell him on the radiant. He is selling the house and didnt want to invest in radiant.. maybe next time! Like Mr. Holohan says, never do jobs for your family, friends, or your church, these jobs will never work! in a way this one was a rather large pain in the arse! It took alot of saturdays and weeknights to complete the install, and being a renovation i had to keep the plumbing and heat end of things moving so the project could progress... Sidework sucks!

hi ray i see that you do a lot of installs that looks like a big boiler for a house that size a g115 could not do that job? i have a 1400sf house and i use a g115-28 with 2107 bfu room sensor and lt160 42gl hot-water tank and on a 20 deg day i heat the house at 73F with 126F water with baseboards no problem

    thanks

okay the house just did not look that big to me but with the garage at 60K then yea. good choice on the boiler i like the 215 in that you can use any return water temp without a bypass or anything nice boiler design i wish the g115 was built the same way but i love mine.

thanks ray for all the job photos you have posted i really enjoy looking at them. your a busy man keep up the nice work ;-)

    thanks

    Please provide Heat Loss info

I hope you were planning on a HUGE addition, like maybe a Hotel. What is the heat loss on that house plus the garage? What is the net on that 215? See what I'm getting at? Before you go patting yourself on the back for a "nice install" Tell us what your heat loss report came up with. Were you just not taking any chances and oversized or can you back it up with facts? 900 sq/ft plus garage, are you kidding me or just yourself. I am thankful I'm not responsible for the fuel bill.

    Well Pete

If as Ray mentioned his heatloss at this point is 110,000 and he is factoring in for another room above the garage then he is hitting in the park. The G215 is capable of 134,000 to 294,000. If you then factor in dropping the firing rate by 10% which as long as stack temp is acceptable then he hit's it right on the head with room for future needs.

Ray, nice neat clean job. It look's like you "planned" for everything in nice order. I love the fact you installed the logamatic with the system. They do make a huge difference in fuel savings!!

Hey 'Ol Canasta simmer down there buddy! If you notice I said it WAS a 900 sf ranch that was renovated. open up your eyes before you open up your mouth. In that picture does it look like a ranch house to you? we added a second story, 14 x 18 breezeway and the garage and my heat loss on the home was actually 58k and 60 for the garage... the 215 nets at 134. A 115/34 wouldnt have given me the expansion room i need for the future. you sit here and goof on my work i'd love to see yours.

Thanks Lchmb for the kind words, I love the R2107 I've only installed one buderus w/out one and thats because I used the tekmar TN4 control. I think you get more bang for you buck w/ the 2107

Now it's only Way oversized instead of Ridiculously oversized! You could put 3 more stories on that hotel.

You're still losing me buddy, maybe you should go back to HVAC 101... The boiler is oversized by 15,000 BTU's. The room above the garage will have a dormered roof, the heat loss of the room if i recall will be 16k, so if anything I'm undersized! The house is 2076 sq ft not including the garage and future room

I'll try to get my heat load calcs today when I'm work, I don't have my slant fin explorer yet on this computer. Not that I have anything to prove anyway, I'm a liscenced HVAC contractor I've done a few installs in my time... I'm pretty sure I know how to size a boiler. Thanks David for the comments! I see you're out of Mass too, do you work towards the cape only?

I misunderstood and I am sorry

I didn't realize you are doing Snow-Melt throughout the house, garage and the neighborhood. I stand corrected, the boiler is properly sized. Nice job!

hay Pete i don't see any purge valves or isolation valves before and after pumps ? whats up with that?
  • Ray Landry_2
    Ray Landry_2 Member Posts: 114

Nice looking install, how come you made the boiler your primary loop? And what made you go with 9 individual pumps? I admit I'm a pump man myself too mostly because of the fact that in a multiple zone valve system if your pump dies multiple zones don't have heat, but I think in a 9 zone system i would maybe split the pumps up in threes. Not bustin just curious. Also on that riello burner did you check your insertion depth? Alot of times you have to pull them way out of the shamber to meet factory specs. I'm guessing you have a power purge setup on the feed? or do you have individual purges i can't see?

    What no GB142 ??

Install looks good. Hard to tell, but is the boiler relief valve and indirect relief piped together?
Also a note about Buderus boilers. It is NOT recommended to down fire the boilers. It is ok to upfire by ten percent.

    I think

Those are Taco isolation flanges that have a small recessed allen head screw operating the ball valve.
