Solar Cooker? Kid's science project.

I think this spring I'll make one of these these with my 6 year old boys. Hopefully they won't try and cook each other with it.

I remember reading a few times about people using old sattelite dishes covered with reflective mylar to track the sun, but I think that most of the time they basically cooked the heat receiving point where the signal pickup normally goes instead of something useful.

    Solar Cooker? Kid's science project.

O.K. I was able to build a mousetrap so the mouse was not killed. I was able to demonstrate how differing surfaces affected the descent of an object down a wooden board--but I don't have a clue as to how to create a solar cooker. So put down the spud guns Wallies, and let me know of your experiences with solar as applied to cooking.

    Real Goods Catalog

I believe has a solar-based oven that is a model for third world countries. Like Massachusetts :)

You can hardly call it "original" but it may give you some ideas.

whoa!!! Now that is a cooker!

I'm starting to think that we might do the experiment on potential and kinetic energy. Humm, you think they would call the bomb squad if he took the spud gun into school?

    Hi Mike,

My late Father-in-law made one for one of my daughters science fair (statute of limitations has ended :-) ) and she got an A. My granddaughter used it a few years ago and she got an A. He was much more creative than I will ever be.

I'll check the attic to see if we still have it and will snap a picture if we do.

It was made out of styrofoam with a glass cover. It was basic but functional.
