I am considering purchasing a Munchkin Boiler. Any Comments?

It's STILL 30% more efficient than an 82%er just due to the short cycling crap you go through with the big oversized atmospherics...

When it turns on, it stays on and modulates to the load. I find it extremely beneficial to down size them. Make'm work up hill all the time...

Hell, I sell all three, Viessmann, Buderus and Munchkin.

Good better and best. If you limit yourself to one line like some people you know, you limit your sales. Trust me, I know.

    Munchkin....maybe?

We've installed alot of Munchkins, in general it's a love hate relationship. Once they are up and running we like them . There are some quality control issues. Like miswiring on their curcit board small irratating leaks, curcit board flopping around during shipping, loose power wire causing the unit to shut down...... And you must be very careful & mindful in venting you can burn a blower out quick! The earlier models had more problems. I must say lately we pull them out of the box, hang in on the wall ,a couple days to pipe & wire and we fire them up. The controls are simple, eazy to install and do the trick. I recomend them to customers over the high end Viessman Vietodens which twice the cost & a little too sensitive. If you have a high temp system it may not be the unit for your application.

    Why not for high temp?

Isn't the munchie still rated at least 92% even at 180?

  • No. You should not buy a Munchkin boiler.

    They are bad boilers;-)

Not any good unless they are installed by factory trained technicians. That's not the boiler you want. You should buy brand V. They make the best boilers;-)

    munchkin

I have installed afew of them on different types from high temp baseboard ,low temp baseboard and gravity conversion and really have had no promblems but i did follow there piping diagrams piping it p/s i like ther vision one controller and the indirect options easy the unit runs pretty quite but remenber to follow the instructions and pipe it according to the manafactors specs and if your going to use the vision one controller then follow it's piping instruction they are a bit different .As for it's price i feel it's warranted for a unit that contains theese features .As for the custemers they all loved them there gas bills where really cut down by at least 30 to 50 %.I recently went back to a weil mclean ultra install and the HO could not belive his gas bill for 1 month was only 18 bucks now bear in mind that was only for domectics hot water production but for 5 adults and 2 teen age girls 1 teenage son and 2 small childeren he has a 80 gallon phase 3 water heater he impressed and so was i compared to his usual 60 to 80 bucks a month from his old hot water heater and bear in mind everybody was home not vacationing ..Condensing modulating heating equiptment is the next wave of the future and as fuel cost go up these units shall be flying off supoply house also remenber to save you also have to factor in windows insulation and tightening up your home if it is a older home good luck and peace clammy

    not only the money Clammy

but if you can help say even 10% of the population to reduce consumption by 30-50%, imagine what that will do for the enviroment! I really do think, that the days of the regular boilers are really numbered. Just look to England, where only condensing, modulating boilers are now allowed. I have been badgering my favourite boiler manufactor to move into the 21st century. Thier latest "new" product is a true, sealed combustion boiler. Though I love their product, and service, I am in the process of moving away from them, as I want to stay on the cutting edge. If they will not offer a modcon boiler, then they will not survive! And I will not be going down with that ship!
