I was looking at your company website/Ad posting and you have a picture of a steam boiler where you caption the fact that there are valves on the left for annual cleanning, etc.

My question is, are those skim taps or what? Do you recommend annual skimming of steam boilers or annual drain/flush, etc.? I always thought the introduction of new fresh water was bad for the cast iron so I have been afraid to do annual drains or skims for that reason but is that not the case? Or, what specifically are those valves for?

they are there to

allow the draining of the boiler, and for discharge of large quantities of ''mud'' when we clean inside the boiler which we do once a year..we drain her down, and use a homemade ''wand'' to reach in from these openings and wash the bottom of the iron out..then refill, set the ph level, and then steam for awhile to drive the air out..if you don't get the mud off the bottom, you can overheat it trying to heat thru the mud..i use the analagy of trying to cook a hot dog in a pot with an inch of mud on the bottom..also the heat transfer is faster with a cleaner boiler, which is better on gas also..hope that helps..
