American Radiator Steam boiler

We have a customer with an American Radiator steam boiler with a Gordon burner fitted on it. We need to know what controls should be on the boiler and what pressures to set it to. Please call Adam @845-742-1906 or the office @845-692-4858 X205 if you can help us.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Depending on what type of boiler that is

if it's round, it may be horribly inefficient. In this case you could probably cut the fuel consumption in half by replacing it.

The essential safety controls for a residential steam boiler are: 1- a low-water cutoff, you'll probably find this unit attached to the sight glass tappings and made by McDonnell & Miller; and 2- a pressure cutout, attached to the top of the boiler and wired to stop the burner if the pressure gets too high.

The LWCO is non-adjustable. The pressure cutout should be set to stop the burner at no more than 2 pounds and restart at 1 pound on a typical one-pipe system. If this is a Vapor system the settings should be lower.

You need to check your local code to see if it requires "CESD-1" (redundant) controls on residential boilers. This would require a second LWCO and a second pressure cutout, and the additional units must have manual reset.

What area are you located in?
