How often does the boiler need to be cleaned? We have the Weil-McLain boiler and trying to correct balance problems in a one pipe steam system.

well if your having promblems with balaning your system you should start off with the main vents on the end of your steam main also a good thing to check is your pressure trol and are all you steam mains insulated if not insulate them .Also check all the reditor haND VALVES MAKE SURE THERE OPEN AND THAT ALL YOUR RADS ARE AT LAEST LEVEL OR PITCHED BACK TO THE RADITOR VALVE next would be to make sure that your raditor vents are properly sized and working you know they don't last forever .I wopuld personally pull the plugs and drain the boiler check to see how much mud is in there and clean her out good then add some fresh water and do a skim .Best of luck and try gorton vents in my opion there the best steam main and rad vents i use them exclusivly peace clammy sorry for the caps didn't mean toR.A.
