radiator feet extenders?

cold in the midwest

My floor installation went just as Tom described it, and yes, my radiator height is higher than the pipe connection. I am also on the 3rd floor.
I've spoken to a radiatio heating guy and he mentioned some of the buzz words as Tom & Chris. The whole concept is still very fuzzy for me but from what I understood, he mentioned something about a nipple & the extension coupling.
However, he said something about the pipe being a 1" and somehow that would affect either the nipple or coupling size and therefore there may still be a height difference.
Should that be the case, the 1" dowel or shim suggestions seems like a good one.

I have a unique problem that I can't seem to find an answer to. My radiators were removed when I had new hardwood floors installed. The problem is that the pipe and radiator connections are now off by 3/4". As the cold weather is fast approching, I need suggestions on how to reconnect my radiators. I've heard they sell "feet extenders" which may be able to accomplish the job. Is anyone familiar with or heard of these things? Does anyone have a better solution?0 -
I could not find extenders when I redid a tile floor. I had access to 3/4" white polyethylene sheet which I cut and routed the edges to look like marble rectangles. It's not too bad looking. McMaster Carr might have material like this. Marble saddle, for doorways into tiled rooms, could be cut to match your radiators and is not too expensive. Good luck.0 -
If the radiator was removed, then a new floor installed and the radiator replaced, the steam angle valve is now too low to connect to the radiator. Feet extenders will only raise the radiator and increase the distance between the union connections. You need to remove the vertical riser entering the steam angle valve and increse the size of the nipple by the increase in the height of the floor. I hope that it's a first floor radiator.0 -
Hold on there Tom.....
With 3/4 inch seperating the valve from the radiator, some shims just might be in order....The shortest way to extend the riser to the radiator if it's still above the floor is with the use of "extension couplings".(Basically they are femaleXmale couplings) With some, they come out spot on, but the larger the pipe, the higher the rise....and some shims or decorative raising plates may be called for.
I have also seen some flooring companies that drill out the spots for the radiator feet to slip into so that they will match the same height, but it looks worse than the couplings. Chris0 -
I always just use
one inch dowel stock. Matches most anything when painted or stained and easy to cut and there's tons of sources. Some stores even sell it pre-painted.0
