Leaky cast iron rad, can I weld?

Have watched two people try--the cracks run and sometimes spiderweb.
Two things I've heard to try:
1) Pre-heat entire object to 500° or so.
2) Drill small "relief holes" at the VERY ends of the cracks, braze the crack, then the holes.

Leaky cast iron rad, can I weld?
I have a water CI rad, the 1/4" plug popped a leak and I noticed the ci is now splitting. Can it be welded? Thanks,

JB Weld...
Hi Gary -
I just drilled out a crack in one of my cast iron steam radiators, I've used it on VW engine blocks before, so I figure if it can withstand that pressure, it can withstand the pressure of a steam system... tested it last night, no problems with that one. Now off to the next one that's cracked.
cheers
