thermopile generators, millivolts, et al

of old gravity systems out there that only require 24 volts for the thermostat and gas valve. I suppose you could set it up with a millivolt system.
I don't know if you could use a modern boiler, though. They like a strong flow that you only get with a circulator, not gravity. It would probably short-cycle like crazy.
Or are you talking about steam?

Has anyone set up an atmospheric boiler to function without electricity?
Can one (without bypassing todays controls) heat 1500 to 3000 edr with gas & bypass need for a generator or stand-by batteries during a power outage?0 -
milivolt ignition
much of the heating equipment that goes into northern Quebec is supplied with or field converted to millivolt ignition precisely because of the frequency of winter power loss. High mass boilers with large water galleries shine in this application.
Perhaps some of our Quebecois Wallies can speak to this.0 -
Looking North is a great idea!
& to answer Alan, it's an old gravity feed 2 pipe Mouat (ounces) steam system that I'd like to keep as simple as possible..... and not have to worry when the power goes out.0 -
anything can be done,
if you think about it hard enough and cost doesn't matter..cause your talking duplication of controls..or just removing whats there and installing millivolt..Vicki, you'll catch flak on this site about altering equipment..or you can listen to 'ol joe..he taught me to ''find something that does what you want it to do, and put it on''...his was the generation that won world war 2 with that attitude..
