Fill-trol expansion tank

I have a Burnham boiler with two zones and an Fill-trol expansion tank. I have noted during operation of the boiler that the top of the Fill-trol expansion tank becomes hot. It does have a fill-trol valve attached.
Is the top of the expansion tank suppose to be hot or has it become defective and need to be replaced.
Thanks for the help.

Yes, this is normal
The expansion tank is doing just that. Letting the expanded hot water from the system move into the tank to allow the pressure to maintain at design pressure. As the system cools you may notice the top (neck) start to cool down.
