What's the best residential Direct Vent Boiler

I'm looking for a poll on the best residential Direct Vent Boiler. I'm converting an electric home and I would like the Pro's to give me feedback and the boilers they used.

    Thanks,

    Rich

    in my opinion....

its the 115 Buderus I use it w/ the Carlin EZ-1 for quietness and because it has a nozzle heater. The warmer the basement is the better it will perform...It will be neat to see how the new Burnham MPO is but that is a ways off...kpc

    p.s.- if you can, stay w/ a chimney...even if its all-fuel.

none of them , build an all fuel chimney instead . I went down that road almost 20 years ago and don't want to go back .Even if it runs perfect and doesn't soot the house (doubtful) it will smell outside like a diesel bus . Now where in your yard can you park a bus where it won't bother you ?

Direct vent with a Buderus 115 and a Riello BF burner.
Use one at my home and I love it. Doesn't smell, runs very quiet and trouble free.

Forgot to add, I installed the buderus in August of 1999.

    Check out Peerless DV

Check out the Peerless DV boiler, I admit I work for the rep, but honestly, this has been a trouble free unit, AND, it is very quiet. The three section nets out at 115,000 and a four section boiler is being introduced this month.

I can sympathize with support for "properly" sized chimneys, however if direct vent is the only option and you are aware of possible odors and the termination can be located properly, this is worth a close look.

    It would also be helpful...

.... to know how you intend to heat the house (emitter-wise) and what the current heat loss is. That may ahve a significant impact on your boiler selection.

You could consider a Monitor FCX, for example. It's a 75kBTU/hr condensing direct-vent boiler. Panel radiators or in-floor radiant would maximize its efficiency, as would baseboard sized for 140°F supply temperatures.

As far as the objectionable smells go, many areas now offer low-sulfur heating fuel for a nominal upcharge (i.e. 20 cents/gallon or less). I'd like to think that the up to 1700PPM of sulfur found in heating oil are currently the most noticable contaminant in a boiler flue gas. Once you switch to B5 or some other low-sulfur fuel (40PPM or less), this issue should largely dissappear.

Nonetheless, I elected to heat our home with oil but had a mason build an insulated, lined masonary chimney for it. Still, I'm going to be switching to B5 later this season at a locked-in rate and expect that it will help my boiler by causing less soot and corrosion in the boiler and the flue.

My thoughts exactly. I went to a house the other day that had a Burnham LE with a Beckett AF11. The customer said they had it installed last year and they wanted it cleaned. I asked them why they dont call the installer and he said they don't fix them they just install them..(I hear that three times a week) I said they better look for someone else. If it was an emergency and they needed heat I would get it going but I don't want that thing hanging on my head all winter for what I make on a clean out.

I have been running Buderus G115's with Riello BF-3 burners for years. In my own house, removing the chimney gained me 2 closets.
