put the DV in his home , I helped him set the burner . He put it in a closet in the middle of the house , and it's amazingly quiet , even with the BF5 Riello . He had a problem with the post purge control in the burner - once a week he would find the burner fan running constantly when he woke up . He took the control out and it's been running fine ever since - maybe 3 years . He also said every once in a while he gets a whiff of the exhaust when they're on the deck about 5 feet away .

I'm not sure if Riello took care of the post purge problem , I've heard this wasn't an isolated incident . If it's an option I would go with the Beckett burner .

    Post purge problem resolved

The issue you mention was an intermittent problem with some Riello BF units installed on direct vent equipment for several manufacturers. The post purge board being micro-processor based was affected occasionally by the ignition. A new board has been introduced and to date it has been problem free. The new spec for this and 4 section unit will be the Beckett Nx burner. The unit is extremely quiet inside and will give you some noise at the termination outside. As with any direct vent or power vent unit, you may experience an odor (similar to diesel engine) depending on location.

    direct vent peerless

just did the first tune-up on a wv-dv-03-10/riello bf5 combo the other day. amazingly quiet, customer loves it si far (only been in for a year) only issue i found was a80 dehree nozzle and lots of crap on the end cone. called riello tech support, said go for a 60 degree, my testo 325 had a smiley face on the screen after!

    more

and the next day i ran into tjernlund ss-1 powervented wbv-03,pv was shakng the house, draft proving tube plugged, draft at -.28, walked outside, the damn adjustment cone was lying on the ground with the tabs broken off. i believe one of our crackerjack techs must have ripped it of in a fit of anger on a no heat call last winter. i certainly hope this direct vent stuff catches on and puts pv's into the graveyard soon

I just came by with my instruments to set up the burner for him . He actually works for a heating supply .

If the draft proving tube was plugged and it was running you have a wiring problem.

i forgot to mention that it wasn't running. customer said the last time he tried to turn the heat up in april all he got was a loud power venter! can i add a plea to everyone doing tune-ups to make sure the draft proving tube is clear? i hate getting out out bed at 2:00 a.m. to blow one out. and check the pressuretrol pigtails on steam systems too. especially on the newer boilers where they are just above the water line, seen quite a few that have been plugged, pressure will go in, switch the burner off and not drop back down, no heat again
suppose i should start a new thread......
