maine oil burner test

The Maine test questions are written by people who are not in the industry, or so I was told. Many of the questions come from the oil heat manual. I bet this one did. Although I don't know the answer that they are looking for, I bet that it is in the manual.

maine oil burner test
one of the questions on the test is "after you service an oil burner what is the proper amount of times that you should cycle the burner to know if it is operating properly" this is a subjective question that has no factual base. but the test needs a definitive answer. so what answer are they looking for.0 -
What are the choices?
I would say at least 2...minimum. Once to get an eyeful of what's happening since the service and how the flame has or hasn't changed...or if it lights at all. (some of those fans get pretty clogged up and after cleaning them there may be too much air)
And the second time to both test the safeties and do a combustion test. However, they may be looking for the number of times it takes to get the air out of the burner assembly....as if that can be a set number!
Sounds like a trick to me also. Chris0 -
How about
As many times as necessary to perform all the checks and tests necessary to insure peak performance, safe and reliable operation.0 -

The Maine Oil burner test questions are taken from a pool of questions written by the State Oil and Solid Fuel Inspectors........go figure.
