water level canted-hmmm?

The water line will disappear in the gauge glass without tripping the probe type cutoff. But, within a minute of shutting off the flame, it will call for fill. It steams ok, I was just checking the cutoff by wasting the condensate. It has two 3 inch supply risers.
It looks just like the boiler on page 50 of "lost art" with the exception that the water line appears to be tilted away from the risers.
I've skimmed it, took the water and boiled it on the stove, looks good and clean. I was thinking about putting in an extra cutoff, but don't see a good tapping to use.
Any help would be appreciated.
