  • sizing a new steam system

    We have a steam system and the radiators are 2-pipe, both pipes coming in from the floor (that means it's 2 pipe air vent???) All the contractors who've come out have asked for height of radiators, diameter of tubes, # of tubes. Do they want this for radiant ability or for cubic feet of steam capacity? What questions do I ask to make sure they're spec'ing the right system for my current setup? I calc'd 13000 cubic inches of steam capacity, not including the "modern type" radiators. That sounds wrong to me though.

    Help!

    If anyone's curious, here's the radiator measurements. Except for the library, kitchen and laundry room, all radiators have 1 1/4" tubes.

    Radiators
    sections - rows deep - height

    Living room 20 sections 3 rows deep 27" high

    hall 20 sections 3 rows deep 27" high

    dining room 20 sections 2 rows deep 27" high

    library 40 sections 1 row deep 13" high;
    tubes are diamond shape, 3x1 inches cast in pairs

    kitchen 24 sections 4 rows deep 16" high;
    more modern type

    laundry 4 sections 6 rows deep 29" high;
    more modern type

    bedroom 1: 12 sections 3 rows deep 27" high

    bedroom 2: 12 sections 2 rows deep 27" high

    bathroom 8 sections 2 rows deep 27" high
