Steam Boiler Piping Diagram

the "one-pipe" or "two-pipe" parts of the system occur after the steam main leaves the boiler's header. So it wouldn't be shown on that Columbia/Utica gas steamer diagram.
What type of boiler and system do you have?

i've had good luck doing what they want0 -
I am referring to a friends steam boiler in a house he just bought. I know little about steam, but i believe it is a newer Utica boiler with one pipe going into the radiators (one pipe system??). It cycles constantly on what appears to be the LWCO-would think this is very un-efficient.0 -
Your friend
should have a pro look at his 1-pipe system to make sure the system is properly vented, the returns are clear and the pressuretrol/vaporstat is set correctly.
Patrick Linhardt says it the best:
Steam Up
Air Out
Water Back

A "pro" did come in and look at it- said it looked fine. Cost him a nice chunk of change for that professional opinion. Would you call cycling on/off every 10 seconds fine????0 -
header size
If the header in the diagram is larger than recommended could any problems be anticiapted?0 -
Buy Dans book
I strongly recommend your friend buy Dan's book "A Pocketful of Steam Problems (with solutions)" I am not a professional. Steam is a very simple system but with many small things that must be correct for a system to operate properly. I found this site a year ago and the knowledge I have gained is priceless. My gas bills have been extremely high for the past 13 years since my system was installed. Through Dan's book I discovered I have a header sized smaller than boiler tappings, a bullhead tee on the header, no equalizer so condensate was dropping directly back on top of steam, no main vents and an oversized boiler by 100%. I have since re-piped near boiler piping with a drop header and corrected all the other problems. Read the book and continue to visit this site.0
