Steam coil capacity

I am working on a project where we have three large air handlers, each with a steam heating coil. I want to determine the heating capacity of each of the coils. I know the surface area of the coil face. What other factors do I need to know too determine the coil capacity? Once I determine those factors how do I convert it to a steam capacity - lb/hr or btu/hr?

If I was to select a new boiler for the building would it be sized on the sum total of the capacities of each boiler, or could I size it on the block heating load of the entire building?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Can You...

... get the CFMs off the fans? If you have that, and the inlet/outlet air temps you're looking for, it's an easy calculation. Often, the hardest part is getting the CFM, if it's a retrofit of an old installation.

    #/hr = (CFM X 1.08 X delta-T) / 1,000

  • Thanks Tony,

The problem is I do not know the inlet and outlet desing temperatures. The inlet temperature is probably around 65 degrees, but I could only guess as to the required discharge air temperature.
