24ga is the minimum you should use.

For a longer lasting/better job look for 22ga welded seam, or if it is a long run or if clearances are a problem look into insulated smoke pipe for wood stoves.

Our clearance to cumbustables is 18", closer than that you need an insulated pipe or an approved heat sheild.

Just another note, Fire code DW is a combustable(paper)surface, that one got me once.

    venting wood boiler

We are connecting a wood boiler for one of our customers. The flue pipe needs to be replaced, what is the proper guage pipe? 24gauge? does it need to be black - rather than galvanized?

    Indoor or out?

The boiler installation manual should have some requirements listed?

Generally you would need a special insulated "all fuel" type of venting material to handle the flue temperatures produced by solid fuel burning devices.

Clearence to combustiables, and combustion air need to be addressed also.

Most of the vent manufactures will help size and spec the correct product. Contact the manufacture or rep for some help with this important step.

    more info

Thanks Hot Rod, this is an existing indoor wood boiler, customer has not used it in several years. We are going there to install a new oil boiler and he wanted us to tie it back in. The chimney has two separate flues,we just need to put new "smokepipe" on it.
