Heat Loss for a Garage

heat loss is very important. I would guess more than 60% of the people have oversized units. Most plumbers just guess by the size of the house then add a little more just to be sure. If your in the market for a new heating system and you never had a heat loss done I reccomend you do it. It will give you satisfaction knowing that money isnt being wasted.

I'm figuring a Heat Loss for a home with a large garage, that may or may not be heated in the future. My question is the garage heat loss comes in about 24,626 btu's the total for the home without the garage included, runs about 87,180 btu's. If I add the garage, I will have to move up to the next boiler size that handles 110,000 btu's, chances are the garage would not be at the design temp 71 all the time, the next boiler smaller is 85,500, money isn't a concern just trying to give the guy a well sized system. Thanks for the help

    what is a heat loss

are you suppose to have one for only new houses?,I never saw my plumber do one, or he must know by what size the room is, but I don't have a garage.

    Look into

a modulating boiler. It will match it's output to the load. Consider Munchkin, Weil McLain Ultra, Buderus, Lochinvar Knight, Triangle Tube Prestige, Viessmann Vitoden, Trinity, and a few others.

A Weil Ultra, 155,000 for example, modulates from 31K up to 139K (CSA figures) This should cover a wide range of possible loads for you.
