I like the many little touches on this replacement job, such as the poured concrete pad that is a tad higher than the surrounding ground, the plumb lines of the header, and the other updates.

It's too bad that they didn't let you replace that hack job of a water heater install either.... :-P

    Boiler dated 4 ,1952

i think this one earned a break, i know i needed one after i carried it out of the cellar. the last photo is mr putnam realy great guy, he's going to love his new fuel bill.I always cut and tread my own nips and pipe makes for a nice custom fit. oh yes i know i did not do a drop header, the dilivery company was short of 2 1/2 90* had enuff to do what i did :( oh well it still works great...David

is it me or do all the pics seem bowed out from center just a bit??seems all the edges have a very slight curve out. i have different lens for this camera i going to try a different one

    job, David.

I like the copper return into the Hartford Loop; makes it a bit easier and should work fine.

    quite heavy!

I wouldn't fret about not doing a drop header on this one. With all that headroom, the reason for a drop header is to greatly ease installation when the boiler has two or more risers to the header. Since that SGO only has one riser, there's no need for a drop header here.

Looking good! Did you vent the mains?

    Thank you Guys

Yes adding the copper in the wet part of the return is easyer but also wont rot out with all that water just sitting with the mud..

Steamhead you bet that sucker was heavey lol . i had to to do the job myself no help yet, will be adding to the company very soon thu....David
  • Nice work David

I like your idea of piping the boiler header and equalizer first to keep the pipe stable while connecting to the risers . Is that a poured slab of cement you set the Weil on or a solid precast block ? That's a nice touch . I hope your back aint hurting from hauling up the iron crap . And I seriously hope you had help getting that Weil in the basement . I know they're very heavy . Keep up the great work Dave .

    Thank you Ronjr

Yes i had help getting the new boiler in and the sections out, we have a great and i do mean great delivery guy named Dave Jubrey from litco surply. hes been bring me boilers for 15 yrs now and is a good friend as well.

when i pulled the old boiler out i found that the boiler was in before they poured the concrete floor, so instead of just filling the hole i made a little riser, i took the old boiler apart the day before i put in the new one, the crete was still a little green but held out nicely...David
